My 4 Pillars of Football Coaching Philosophy
Communication
The foundation of unity and success – every player understands their role and responsibility. Everyone in our unit, players and coaches, are open, honest, and respectful when communicating with each other. Every player understands the clear and concise play-call and adapts to situational adjustments when required. Players are encouraged to communicate effectively on and off the field and push each other to be the best they can be to embody leadership and accountability.
Relentless Effort
Excellence through hard work – In my unit, effort is non-negotiable. We practice and condition to effectively define how our team will play. We compete in our position groups and allow the ability to rotate starters each week to reward great effort and relentlessness. Every rep, drill, and play is designed to be executed at maximum intensity and focus. My philosophy comes from the commitment to outwork every opponent in preparation and performance.
Strategic Preparation
Victory lies in preparation and adaptability – Inspired by classic literature like the Art of War, I focus on leveraging every possible tactical advantage each week for my unit. I teach my players to think strategically and anticipate plays before they happen. Each week, I provide an in depth report on our opponent and we install new adjustments based on self-scouting and opponent tendencies. My background in data analytics allows me to breakdown film with a modern approach.
Unity and Teamwork
Strength through unity and character – I strive to create a culture where players uplift and support one another. A brotherhood or family atmosphere where we each practice discipline, composure, and mental toughness every step of the way. We celebrate diversity and ensure every individual contributes to the team and we embrace challenges and adversity as a unit. Sometimes we argue and demand the highest standards from one another, but that is what develops accountable leaders in our community and a close knit family. We always make up and we always have each others back.
Timeline
In 2024, I re-joined my childhood football organization and volunteered as the Defensive Coordinator & Associate Head Coach of the AAA U16 Cambridge Lions.
In my first season coaching in the OSFL, I implemented next level defensive schemes to help develop my unit both mentally and physically, and implemented effective rotations so that every athlete had the opportunity to get on the field while promoting versatility.
As Defensive Coordinator, my unit totalled over 23.5 sacks, 39 tackles for loss, 10 interceptions, 41 pass breakups, and 2 touchdowns in our 10 game season.
Two athletes in my unit were named Ontario AAA All-Stars – two of the defensive lineman in Ontario.
We concluded the year with a bowl game victory to win the 2024 KJ Kenemy Bowl OSFL Championship.
In the fall, I volunteered and joined the St. Benedict’s C.S.S Saints coaching staff as the Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator.
Five players I coached on D/ST were named District 8 All-Stars – including 1 Defensive Linemen, 1 Linebacker, and 3 Defensive Backs.
In 2025, I am returning to my role as the Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach with the U16 AAA Cambridge Lions. I am also taking on a new role as the Strength and Conditioning coach, and I have developed a multiple phase approach to develop my players in on-field, gymnasium, or indoor turf field settings this offseason.
